"During the Great Patriotic War, Joseph Stalin was the commander-in-chief. More and more city residents are asking for a monument to Stalin to be erected. This has already been done in other regions." сказал Petrov.
He added that residents Tomsk will support this initiative and are ready to contribute funds for the installation of the monument.
Let us add that in Tomsk during the Stalinist repressions there was only one training ground – on the mountain Kashtak - about nine thousand people were shot. Among them poet Nikolay Klyuev, philosopher Gustav Shpet, princes Alexander Golitsyn и Mikhail Dolgorukov, princess Olga Urusova.
At various times, several Gulag camps were located in the Tomsk region: Siblag, TOMASINLAG, and a camp for members of traitors to the homeland (ChSIR). The most famous mass burial site in the Tomsk region for people executed or who died in prison. NKVD in the Narym district in the 1930s - 1940s - Kolpashevsky YarAccording to the society "Memorial"The total number of people buried in Kolpashevsky Yar is approximately 4000. On May 1, 1979, the Ob River washed away the banks of Kolpashevsky Yar, uncovering a mass grave. Authorities decided to destroy the grave by disposing of the bodies found in the river. Tomsk television channel TV2 filmed a documentary about the events.
Ksenia Fadeeva, a former Tomsk City Duma deputy and former coordinator of Alexei Navalny's Tomsk headquarters, commented on the monument's installation.
"Erecting a monument to a tyrant guilty of murdering hundreds of thousands of people is a wonderful, highly relevant idea, in keeping with the spirit of the times. It could be erected right on Kashtachnaya Hill, where the bodies of the executed were dumped. Or near the NKVD Museum, where a memorial to the victims of the repressions still stands. A monument to Stalin would also look great on Kolpashevsky Yar, where a mass grave of executed victims was discovered (and destroyed); it would be very symbolic," Fadeeva wrote on her Telegram channel.
This isn't the only case in the regions where officials have shown interest in the tyrant's personality. Last year, a monument to Stalin have opened в Vologda at the initiative of the regional governor. And in Novosibirsk Roman Yakovlev, a member of the Legislative Assembly from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation сообщил on his VK page that the installation of a monument to Stalin at the city hall had been approved in principle.
