War and Doves. A monument to the "Heroes of the SVO" will be erected in the Tver Region.

Local authorities collected money for it from entrepreneurs and residents. Rzhevsky District.

The installation of the monument required more than 3,2 million rubles, of which, according to the head of the Rzhevsky district, Roman Krylov, 2,4 million rubles had been collected by mid-January.

Krylov posted an image of the monument on his VKontakte page. The heavily armed SVU officer is surrounded by a flock of doves, symbolizing his peaceful intentions. Since the time of Picasso's famous dove, these "birds of peace" have proliferated and become bronze.

“The question is often asked about why doves are depicted next to the fighter.

The dove is a symbol of peace. Our soldiers, just like 80 years ago, strive for peace and protect the interests of the civilian population. They fight for their country, for the peace and safety of our families and loved ones.""This is how the head of the district commented on the photo.

Residents of the Rzhevsky District reacted differently to the announcement of the monument:

"Wives and mothers immortalized the memory of their defenders in the cemetery🙏🙏🙏everything else is just show."

"Monuments to modern warfare will be erected at the sites of battles and victories!! But in Rzhev, we first need to find, excavate, perhaps identify, and bury with honors the heroes of the Great Patriotic War!" - such comments abandoned under a post about the monument on the Rzhevgrad public page on VKontakte.

NeMoskva wrote that from 2023, Russian regions concluded 34 contracts worth over 150 million rubles for the installation of monuments and memorials to servicemen who died in Ukraine (according to the government procurement portal). The largest spender is one of Russia's poorest regions— Transbaikal Territory.
