A 498-kilogram pumpkin and no chemicals: A Yaroslavl region resident explains how to grow a gigantic harvest.
30-year-old Angelica Utkina lives in Myshkinsky district. The girl began growing giant vegetables after winning special seeds in a gardening competition.
«We're currently growing absolutely everything: watermelons, melons, giant pumpkins, and tomatoes. This year, we've added giant zucchini and giant sunflowers." — Angelica shared with 76.ru journalists.
To grow these giants, Utkina uses no chemicals—only natural fertilizers. For example, an infusion of banana peels and onion skins. To protect the fruits from adverse weather conditions, Angelika covers them with a moisture-repellent and heat-retaining material.

He doesn’t spare water either: “I simply connect a hose to the barrel and direct water to the roots. It uses a lot—at least 50 liters a day, sometimes more, depending on the weather. — the girl shares. — If you water irregularly and wait only for rain, then when the fruit has already formed, it may burst due to a sudden influx of moisture.”
Angelica set her record last year - 489-kilogram A pumpkin that took six months to grow. But there's always room for improvement: the pumpkin record for Russia is 811 kilograms. In 2024, it was grown by an amateur gardener from the Moscow region. Lukhovits Andrey Gusev.
