The bodies of more than 300 residents of Sudzha were evacuated from the Kursk region.
They have already been handed over to the relatives of the victims, a member of the military investigative bodies of the Russian Investigative Committee reported. Alexander Glukharev.
In addition to the evacuation, since mid-August, the territory Sudzhansky Area Search operations were underway. According to Glukharev, the bodies of another 112 Sudzha residents were found and exhumed: "In Kursk, where representatives of the Main Military Investigative Directorate are working, they are already taking DNA samples and conducting identification."
At the end of September, it was reported that a year after the Ukrainian Armed Forces invaded the Kursk region, at least 240 residents of Sudzha and the surrounding area were still missing. “We contacted various investigative bodies, the Russian Red Cross, but we didn’t hear anything concrete about what work was being done to find our relatives,” said in the appeal of relatives.
At the end of August the head Kursk area reported that 590 people went missing during the offensive. The fate of 300 of them was known, but the fate of the remaining 290 remains a mystery. Meanwhile, the VKontakte public page dedicated to the missing was blocked, and the Liza Alert unit stopped publishing information about them.
The official registry of missing persons began to be compiled in February 2025. Prior to this, on August 14, 2024, authorities "strongly recommended" that residents of the Kursk region, desperately trying to find missing persons, not publish information about those wanted in open sources, ostensibly because it could be intercepted by the Ukrainian Center for Information and Psychological Operations.
