Luxury car sales in Russia reached a record high.
Analysts from FinExpertiza calculated, that the number of luxury cars in Russia increased by 8,3 units in a year. Despite external constraints, the luxury car market is expected to grow by a third by 2025, reaching 33 units. The main reasons cited are rising incomes among wealthy Russians, expanding supplies of premium Chinese models, and increased demand ahead of the recycling fee increase.
The amount of transport tax assessed on luxury cars increased by 27% and reached a record level. 5,5 billion rubles!
Moscow saw the largest increase in car sales over the year, with 3420 vehicles. Among the regions, Krasnodar Krai saw the largest increase in this segment, with 407 units. Another 220 premium cars were purchased by residents of Tatarstan. The top performers were also in Sverdlovsk Oblast (+188 vehicles over the year), Dagestan (+169 vehicles), and Chechnya (+152 vehicles).
Residents of the Jewish Autonomous Okrug and Chukotka pay the lowest luxury tax, with four luxury cars registered there each. Five luxury cars are registered in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, seven in Tyva, and 14 in the Altai Republic.
At the same time, the recycling fee for cars in Russia will increase starting December 1. Experts believe this will devastate the Russian auto market. Buying a car will become a luxury for ordinary families. However, these changes are unlikely to impact luxury buyers.
"For example, if I bought a Rolls-Royce and paid 40-50 million rubles for it, then for me this increase would be like, 'Well, now I'll pay 60 million rubles.' So the bigger consumer will suffer, for whom 1.5 million rubles is a huge amount, and they'll have to pay even more on top of that," explained Automotive expert Alexander Gusarov.
