"The economy cannot withstand the prolonged continuation of the Cold War." A State Duma deputy spoke for the first time about the need to end the war in Ukraine.
State Duma deputy from Novosibirsk region Renat Suleimanov (CPRF) in an interview with the publication "Continent Siberia" stated that the continuation of "SVO" will have a detrimental effect on the Russian economy.
"It's absolutely clear that the economy can't withstand a prolonged continuation of the Special Operations Mission. Officially, 40% of the federal budget is devoted to defense and security. What development, investment, or capital expenditure can we even talk about? Neither tanks nor shells have consumer value: the economy produces them, but the population can't consume them. [...] Therefore, a swift conclusion to the Special Operations Mission is absolutely essential. The special operation has already lasted longer than the Great Patriotic War. God willing, it will end in victory, not just an interim result," сказал Suleimanov.
"This is probably the first such statement made by a State Duma deputy," пишет The agency noted that it was made “against the backdrop of a noticeable change in political rhetoric in the run-up to the autumn elections.”
According to the War Calculator project, Russia spent More than 44 trillion rubles are spent on the war in Ukraine—almost 37 billion rubles daily.
