Former State Duma candidate Alexei Akimenko from the Bashkortostan Yabloko party was summoned to the police for a 2015 post.
Today, Alexey Akimenko posted on his social media page that he was interviewed by the police on October 22. The incident was prompted by a 2015 post he made using the Instagram logo. The post was made in the VKontakte group "Da Bro!" A police officer rudely attempted to find out whether Akimenko was the owner of the group. The politician is charged with public display of extremist symbols.
"At the police station, publicly, while on duty, a police officer insulted me, lied, demanded that I include in my personal explanations things I didn't want to include, and also refused to provide copies of documents that directly related to me, in direct violation of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and current legislation. I hold no grudge against the officer. I will not provide his first or last name, rank, or position." wrote politician on his social networks.
The former candidate was threatened with criminal prosecution, despite the fact that he was summoned under an administrative charge.
Alexey Akimenko and the State Duma elections
Alexey Akimenko was registered as a State Duma candidate for the Neftekamsk electoral district from the Yabloko party. His competitor in the district is from A Just Russia. Konstantin Shagimuratov filed a lawsuit to disqualify Akimenko from the elections. One of the arguments cited was the VKontakte post, but the plaintiff was unable to prove Akimenko's involvement in the publication. Akimenko was disqualified on other grounds, and Konstantin Shagimuratov, who had been elected to the State Duma on the party list, later renounced his mandate.
Persecution of Yabloko members in recent days
As a reminder, this is the third case of persecution of Yabloko members in recent days. On October 21, the Kuibyshevsky District Court of Omsk fined Omsk Yabloko leader Tatyana Schneider 10 rubles for a 15-year-old comment on VK. The comment appeared after a series of hacks on Schneider's social media and was not hers. On October 27, the Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg will hear an administrative case brought against Yabloko member Dmitry Khorzov under the article "discrediting the army" due to points in his election campaign.
