An ice jam flooded a village in the Irkutsk region, injuring more than 300 people.

The Nizhnyaya Tunguska River in the Katanga District flooded the village of Podvoloshino. A state of emergency has been declared.

According to the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 133 household plots, where 328 people live, were flooded. As reported publication "People of Baikal," local resident Lyubov Sukhorukova says, "The entire village is flooded, and almost everyone's fences have been broken by the ice. She hasn't been able to leave her house for three days because the water is right up to her porch."

Sukhorukova believes that the ice jam was cleared late this year, which caused the severe flooding. Four kilometers below the village of Podvoloshino, the river makes several bends, which is where the ice jam forms, and it's supposed to be cleared at the end of April. This year, the Ministry of Emergency Situations didn't clear it until May.

The mayor of the Katanga district, Sergei Chonsky, told People of Baikal that residents of the affected villages had been advised to evacuate. He added that buses and boats patrolling the villages were ready to transport people. So far, only 14 people have left their homes.
