"The management doesn't care what people flush their toilets with." Residents of the Dagestani city of Izberbash staged a spontaneous protest due to a lack of water.

More than 50 thousand residents of the resort town in Dagestan For a month now, residents have been suffering without water in 40-degree heat. Today, desperate residents staged a spontaneous rally outside the city water utility building. They are demanding that the authorities restore the water supply and are chanting "Mayor resign!" and "Water!"

A water utility representative reported that there are no water supply problems in winter because the ground freezes and holds the pipes in place, but in summer, he said, they begin to melt due to the heat. He believes the entire water supply system needs to be replaced, and to address the problem, they are "writing letters to the head of the republic and the government."

He also tried to justify himself by delivering water free of charge throughout the city, but people denied this fact.

«My desire is to turn on the tap and get water. For our management, the most important thing is that their cars are clean. Look, all the car washes are working, but what people flush the toilet with—they're no longer interested in that."," says one of the protesters.

«We've had no water for a month now. They keep lying to us: either they're having water leaks or they're replacing the pumps. We moved from the village to the city, thinking we'd live well here, but we're living even worse. We heat up the water, sit in the bathtub, and scoop it up with a mug, just like in the old days.“,” another city resident is indignant.

«I live on the fourth floor and have to carry jugs of water up there. I wash my clothes by hand at home, then go downstairs, rinse them like I would in the mountains, wring them out, and then lift the heavy clothes up.“,” a local resident is indignant.

Tourists are also suffering from the water shortage. In the comments, they complain that because of this, they can't "eat properly, swim after the sea, or go to the toilet." They note that they came to Dagestan "to relax, not to survive."

According to local Telegram channels, the mayor of Izberbash met with protesters. Magomed IsakovThe Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor's Office have launched an investigation.
