"This nasty piece didn't even last 24 hours": Tomsk volunteers secured repairs to the crossing and are now fighting vandals.

Activists who secured repairs to an underpass on the Irkutsk Highway in Tomsk are having to paint over vandals' tags and graffiti themselves. Recently, graffiti advertising drugs appeared on the underpass. However, activists were able to quickly paint over the graffiti.

"Guys, I just realized what an incredible feat we pulled off today! That bastard didn't even survive the day. And it's so amazing, I can't sleep from excitement," wrote pAfter painting Anna Novitskaya.

Volunteers say they're currently responsible for maintaining the crossing's cleanliness and order, buying paint or applying vandal-proof varnish. Neither the city authorities, nor the district administration, nor the police are able to maintain its appearance, nor close it down, much less build a proper overpass.

Let us add that the inspiration for the renovation of the crossing on the Irkutsk highway was Tomsk resident Anna Novitskaya. She was the one who once descended into the underpass while walking and was horrified by the clogged storm drains, graffiti-covered walls, and broken light bulbs. With the help of activists and volunteers, she managed to draw attention to the underpass and even created a special website, "Normal Crossing." Only then did city authorities take notice and repair the underpass.
