A cornice on a school facade in Belgorod collapsed. It couldn't bear the weight of sandbags used to block the windows to protect them from shelling.

Apparently, the decorative ledge under the first floor windows could not withstand the weight of the bags that were laid down here a little over a week ago by parents of schoolchildren.
In a photograph taken on August 20, the protective structure was several meters high. Now, a pile of bags lies beneath the windows, crushing part of the flowerbed.
To protect against shelling, the windows of many Belgorod schools and kindergartens were covered with sandbags.
Parents of students studying in cadet classes also report that two days before the start of the school year, they were urgently required to sew camouflage uniforms.
