A judge in Sakhalin decided to rid her subordinate of her alcohol addiction by placing her in a temporary detention facility. She will now stand trial.

In June 2022, police officers detained Olga Magurova, an employee of the Korsakov City Court. According to investigators, she was intoxicated in a public place. No administrative offense report was filed.

Information about the arrest was leaked to Elena Grechkina, the deputy chairperson of the same court. According to the case file, Grechkina decided to help her colleague "overcome" his alcohol addiction. To do so, she called Ilya Gustas, the head of the Korsakov police department, and convinced him to backdate the administrative violation report against Magurova. Magistrate Judge Oksana Kosheleva then ordered the court employee's detention in a temporary detention facility for three days.

In August, this decision was overturned due to lack of evidence. Upon learning of this, Judge Elena Grechkina resigned, but by then an investigation had already begun—both hers and Kosheleva's. The investigation stemmed from an audio recording of a telephone conversation between Grechkina and Gustas, in which they "conspired" to "illegally deprive the victim of her liberty" (how exactly this recording surfaced is unclear).

As a result, in relation to judges and the police excited Criminal cases. The police officer was fired from his job due to "discreditable circumstances," arrested, and placed in pretrial detention. The judges' immunity was stripped. They all face prison sentences ranging from 3 to 10 years.
