Russia plans to introduce a unified school uniform for the first time since 1992.
This possibility was discussed at the "National Congress of School Uniform Manufacturers." Participants advocated for the innovation and expressed hope to create clothing that would not only be beautiful but also convey national identity.
Svetlana Zhurova, head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, addressed the congress. She responded to criticism from parents who believe the uniform deprives children of creativity.
"When creativity and uniforms were lacking, we went into space. There were a lot of scientific facts and research, and our country made breakthroughs. And yet, everyone wore uniforms. We were, in fact, very uncreative during that period," said Svetlana Zhurova.
Her colleague Nina Ostanina complained The fact that most school uniforms are produced by foreign factories is noted. Among the Russian manufacturers, "children's clothing manufacturers from Pskov, Moscow, and St. Petersburg" were noted.
"The problems for domestic entrepreneurs lie in the lack of raw materials (they are imported from Turkey, China, and a little from Belarus). In Russia, there are only two factories producing the raw materials purchased for children's uniforms. Accessories are also imported... All this leads to higher costs of clothing production," Ostanina wrote on her Telegram channel.
She added that at the congress, the school uniform designs developed by factories differed from those presented by the children. The factory designs were purely formal, while the children's designs were oversized, brightly colored, and asymmetrical. Ostanina noted that school uniform manufacturers should receive state compensation, citing the 70% compensation rate under the USSR as an example.
The average budget for a boy's uniform is approximately 8,500 rubles. This includes trousers, a shirt, a jacket, a vest, and a pair of shoes. For a girl, it's approximately 4,000 rubles. This includes tights, a turtleneck, shoes, and a skirt.
