Snags have eyes: Tomsk launched a campaign to highlight the careful treatment of trees on city streets.
The "MonsTree" campaign was launched by the "City Doesn't Infuriate" community. As part of it, dead trees, stumps, and snags were given "eyes," transforming them into unique art objects—monsters with their own stories and personalities.
"Not a single whole tree was used or harmed—everything was created using only pieces of trees found within the city, dried out and, in places, literally falling apart at the touch," — the head of “The City Doesn’t Infuriate” explained to NeMoskva Dmitriy Polyakov.
For two months, Tomsk residents are invited to search for monsters on the city streets and share their photos on their social media. Afterward, all photos will be sent to the Department of Road Activities and Improvement:
"If our Monsters are noticed and ultimately these trees are uprooted and replaced with new ones, we'll be happy! A Monster is a marker, a 'red flag' that a specific tree needs to be removed and replaced with a larger one. Not a 'twig,' but a mature sapling." — says Polyakov.
