"The most loyal creature in the world": Irkutsk residents erected a monument to the street dog Ryzhik.
Ryzhik lived in the courtyard of a multi-story building on the street Upper Embankment More than ten years. This is a case where a homeless dog was perceived not as a threat, but as a protector and friend.
"There were always a lot of stray dogs in the area, but none of them dared go to the playground. He chased them all away. The children loved him. He never hurt anyone and never barked at people." recalls local resident Julia.
It seemed like Ryzhik had always been in the yard. Residents speculate that the dog may have been fed by workers during construction, but when the building was finished, he remained.
When Ryzhik died of old age, the residents decided to immortalize their friend's memory. Together, they raised about 60 rubles and commissioned a reinforced concrete monument from sculptor Evgeny Timkovich.
"I once had a dog myself. So I sympathize with the feelings of those who wanted to erect a monument to Ryzhik. There were a lot of them. Together, we obtained the necessary permits for the installation." — says Evgeny.
Now Ryzhik is forever close to those who loved him.
