"Sort out the underground!" Land is being reserved for an overground metro in Yekaterinburg.
Planning for an overground metro line has begun in Yekaterinburg. Sites in the city are being allocated for it—they are currently booked for three years, nothing else can appear on them.
The Yekaterinburg Central Passenger Ring project will extend from Kompressorny Zavod station to Koltsovo Airport station—five stops, 10 kilometers. Ultimately, Yekaterinburg is intended to be part of the railway ring, linking outlying districts and satellite towns. The estimated construction cost is 100 billion rubles.
Residents of Yekaterinburg are skeptical about this idea: "You guys should sort out the underground [metro]; it's taking 10 years to build a single station," "The Baikal-Amur Mainline took 12 years to build (4,300 km long), and here they can't even build a single station in that time," "This isn't a metro, it's a commuter train, inconvenient in every way. Only our business owners need it. In Moscow, they open a new metro station every day, and our guys are still trying to squeeze commuter trains into the city," "Build a proper second metro line with that money, you bastards.".
Previously "NeMoscow" toldOne of the stations will pass through a pet cemetery. This is one of two legal cemeteries in the country where deceased pets can be buried. The railway will cross a bridge, so there will likely be no need to excavate the graves. The mayor's office has stated that the cemetery will be relocated.
