"We're still too young for such decisions." This is how the rector's office responded to students at Perm University who are protesting the merger of their departments.

One of the students told NeMoskva that discussions about merging the Physics and Mechanics and Mathematics departments of Perm State National Research University began back in September of last year.
This summer, during the admissions campaign, they were already confidently saying that the Physics and Mechanics and Mathematics departments would not survive until January., she clarified. My fellow students and I view this as yet another attempt at optimization, which will lead to the complete collapse of fundamental education. The worst thing is the destruction of departments. In their place, laboratories will emerge that, instead of scientific research, will focus on applied research.
Another student told NeMoskva about talks about merging the chemistry and biology departments.
Last summer, we had a scientific debate involving professors and deans on the topic of chemistry being just a branch of physics. It was all very formal. After that, we started worrying about our chemistry department. the girl explained.
At the same time, she says, university administration silences those who try to speak out. Discussion is even prohibited about the golden cross that appeared on the campus sports field. "As the new rector said, science and religion always go hand in hand," the student explained.
An initiative group of students tried to find out from the management the reasons for the merger of the faculties. But received the answer is that they are “still too young for such decisions and don’t understand anything.”
Following this, the students wrote a letter to the governor. They emphasized that the university administration was trying todestroy established scientific and student communities, kill departments, replace traditional in-person education with pseudo-learning in a distance format, and cut curricula that currently enable graduates to be competitive in the labor market».
On the eve, journalists from 59.ru Reported Mass layoffs at Perm University are underway. According to the publication's sources, more than 50 employees have received layoff notices.
