"Seeking justice is pointless." Anna Politkovskaya's children and the editorial board of Novaya Gazeta issued a statement regarding the pardon of the organizer of the journalist's murder.

According to the BAZA Telegram channel, Sergey Khadzhikurbanov, sentenced to 20 years in prison for organizing the murder of a journalist Anna Politkovskaya, was released from prison early at the end of 2022. In exchange for his release, he went to war in Ukraine, where six months later he received a pardon and a command position. As Khadzhikurbanov's lawyer stated, "justice has prevailed."

In a joint statement Politkovskaya's children - Ilya и Faith — and the editorial board of Novaya Gazeta also stated that none of them were informed of Khadzhikurbanov's pardon. The pardon itself is "an act of monstrous injustice."

“They will say: everything is according to the law - no one should have been notified, such is the legal procedure, etc.

To this we respond: there's no need to hide behind your law, which has already been punctured by judges' gavels, which have become instruments of torture. The state has long ceased to uphold the law, but rather uses it according to its own twisted understanding. It gives 25 years for convictions and pardons murderers, who are in demand by the state."

The statement recalls that, in addition to organizing the journalist's murder, Khadzhikurbanov was also charged with abuse of office, kidnapping, and causing bodily harm to the kidnapped person (torture). Khadzhikurbanov pleaded not guilty to the journalist's murder.

"There's nothing to comment on here. There's no one to demand anything from. Seeking justice is pointless—she was locked up in solitary confinement for discrediting the government.".
