Toxic liquids from the burning landfill on Mount Shchelba in Novorossiysk are flowing into the Ozereyka River, which flows into the Black Sea.

Rosprirodnadzor reports "serious environmental violations in the Novorossiysk area". 

"An inspection of the Bezymyanny Stream and the Ozereyka River, located near the Terra-N landfill, revealed clear signs of pollution. Our inspection found traces of leachate—a toxic liquid formed during the decomposition of waste. It is characterized by a characteristic dark color and a sharp, unpleasant odor. It was determined that this liquid is flowing from the landfill through a forested area toward the village of Vasilyevka, posing a threat to the local ecosystem."- says in the Telegram channel of the head of Rosprirodnadzor.

At the same time, the environmental agency does not specify that the described pollution is the result of a fire at the landfill, which can't put it out since March 13.

"What we have now is the result of prolonged firefighting at the landfill. The water level is rising, the existing leachate tanks are overflowing, and their contents are spilling into the nearby Tsemes and Ozereika rivers. The Ozereika River originates from the landfill itself, and all the leachate flows further into the Black Sea.", the ecologist writes Georgy Kavanesyan.

Another ecologist, Evgeniy Vitishko, сообщает about new fires at the landfill due to partial landslides.
