He didn't live to see the end of the trial: Ryazan's oldest urban preservationist, who was sued by a developer, died.

Yesterday, an 82-year-old Ryazan teacher, artist, and the oldest member of the regional branch of VOOPIIK (All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments) died due to cancer. Alexander Babiy.
"We will miss you, your wise and honest words. Thank you for the invaluable lessons."- Wrote In the VOOPIiK group, dozens of Ryazan residents expressed condolences to Babiy's relatives.
Throughout his life, Alexander Babiy continued to fight for the preservation of historical monuments and against high-rise construction. Last year, he wrote a letter to Putin regarding the construction of the high-rise "Skyline" residential complex, which "under the conditions of the North-Eastern Military District is being built on the glide path of a strategic airfield" and could lead to tragedy.
After some time, the subsidiary of the largest developer, Green Garden, was established – Specialized Developer Green Garden – Eurostroy. filed a lawsuit regarding the protection of business reputation. At this time, the heritage conservationist was already bedridden and was not present at the preliminary hearing.
- The situation is outrageous, — the deputy chairman of the Ryazan All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments (VOOPIiK) commented to our correspondent Igor Kochetkov. - The point is that Babiy described the situation in a personal letter to the president, the letter was “sent down” to the regional level, and then our officials, or the governor [Pavel Malkov] forwarded the complaint to the person the preservationist had complained about—Green Garden. And they decided to handle the matter their own way.
Previously, another Ryazan developer, Severnaya Kompaniya, survived Babia from a house on Zheleznodorozhnaya Street. Construction of a 20-story building had begun right next to private homes, and construction debris and beams were falling right onto the property.
