Residents of Zelenograd have nicknamed the new benches on the embankment "execution walls" and created a petition against them.

Standing benches put on the renovated promenade Zelenogradsk в Kaliningrad area Instead of regular seating, Kaliningrad residents were surprised by the city authorities' design decision—the benches have already been nicknamed "execution walls," and on social media, residents are perplexed as to how exactly such benches work.

«The installed parametric and vertical benches are an integrated design element that seamlessly integrates into the overall concept. They offer new, stylish forms of relaxation, allowing you to enjoy the sea views." — the city’s chief architect, Denis Kryshchenko, explained this decision.

Residents of Zelenogradsk disagree with Kryshchenko:

«What kind of art object is this anyway? What's the point of it?! "Just stand there and cry," "Let them put it in their own home so guests can sit comfortably," "In the pursuit of originality, they've forgotten about the simple needs of people to simply sit in front of the sea and admire it," "Is this some kind of gradual conditioning of citizens to stand against a wall and sit in a concrete enclosure???"

Sun loungers were also installed along the embankment, and regular benches were removed entirely. Such loungers are not suitable for elderly people and people with disabilities. Local residents created petition against such innovations. Almost 1200 people have already signed it—they're asking for the old, comfortable benches to be restored.

According to the publication "Russian West", the cost of the promenade cost budget of 400,8 million rubles.
