"At first, my husbands were outraged, but now they go to the games." A women's soccer team from the Orenburg region has been conquering the field for a year now.
A women's soccer team was founded in Kuvandyk last May. Mothers of schoolchildren decided to celebrate the end of the school year by playing with their children. Thus, the team "Danika" was born.
"After the fourth training session, we were already heading to our first competition," team captain Evgenia told NeMoskva.
At first, their passion was not understood by either their relatives or male athletes.
"At first there was condemnation. The men wouldn't even let us into the locker room, like, 'Get out of here, we're changing, and you're wasting your time.' But now even the husbands have come to terms with it, and they come to our games. They've realized we're seriously involved, even though we're shocked ourselves at how it all unfolded."
"Danika" travels to tournaments in other cities and also participates in local competitions. On February 23rd, she will face a team of dads.
The team is called "Danika" in honor of the goddess Nike, patroness of women's ball games. And "da" stands for the coach's name, Danila Stepanov.
"Olympia and Sparta were busy, so we decided to add it this way. Our coach works with the little ones—from kindergarten to first grade—and with older boys, there's a girls' team and ours. And 'Danika' is a kind of 'Yes to Victory,'" explains Evgeniya.
The women's team is currently recruiting new players. If you have the desire but lack the skill, no problem—they're ready to teach anyone how to play.
