A ski mountaineer from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky won silver in the sprint at the Olympic Games. 

Russian ski mountaineer Nikita Filippov, acting in a neutral status, won silver He won the 2026 Olympic sprint title. He completed the distance in 2 minutes 35,55 seconds. 

This is the first medal for Russians at the Games in Italy. The winner was a Spaniard. Oriol Cardona Coll.  

Nikita Filippov is 23 years old. He is a multiple-time Russian champion in various ski mountaineering disciplines. His father, the head coach of the Russian national ski mountaineering team, introduced him to skiing at the age of two.

Ski mountaineering is a sport that combines climbing a mountain on skis or on foot with skiing down natural terrain. Ski mountaineering made its Olympic debut at the 2020 Youth Games in Lausanne. At the 2021 IOC Session, the decision was made to include this discipline in the 2026 Olympic Games.
