There's a Sunday school in Komsomolsky Garden. The fate of the green space in Volgograd was decided without regard for the opinions of city residents.

A complex of religious buildings will be built around the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God in Komsomolsky Garden. The governor made the announcement. Andrey Bocharov and Metropolitan Feodor. The townspeople disagree: they've been presented with a fait accompli.
The religious complex will include a Sunday school, a community and educational center with a library, an icon painting workshop, and other facilities, the governor's press service reported.
The townspeople were outraged by such plans. They surethat the park is for recreation and entertainment, and not for religious sites.
"There are now more churches in the country than schools and hospitals combined. By what right, one wonders!" "This is called a 'scorched earth strategy,' the destruction of a favorable human habitat, which creates a cascade of negative factors." "Why aren't they asking the city residents? Is this exactly where they need it?", - Internet users commented on the situation.
Komsomolsky Garden called Long-suffering. For years, the authorities promised to reconstruct it and turn it into an "oasis." In 2022, the park had changed beyond recognition: some familiar features had been relocated, the paving stones were poorly laid, and the turf soon withered. Other promises were not fulfilled. 300 million rubles were spent on the reconstruction. Some of the repairs were corrected, but now the center of the park is once again facing construction.
Residents of many cities protest against the construction of new religious buildings primarily because they take away green spaces and favorite walking spots. For example, in Krasnodar, a temple will be built on Rozhdestvenskaya Embankment - in the only green area of the microdistrict.
