A Voice from a Window in Non-Moscow: About the Man Who Wrapped Russian Melancholy in Jamaican Reggae
True Russian reggae wasn't born under the bright sun. Jamaica, and in the chilly winds Baltic, amidst the concrete grayness and street fights. In our reality, this genre was destined from the start to become something more than just chilled-out beach music—the hypnotic Caribbean rhythms entwined prison anguish, street chaos, and the desperate search for genuine human warmth.
It was a manifesto of nonconformists—people who tried to preserve their inner light and prove that one can always and everywhere remain free. The main figure of this phenomenon was Sergey "Oldie" Belousov — a Kaliningrad poet and the main romantic of Russian reggae.
With #notradio_notMoscow We remember the story of the man who gave us northern reggae, who captivated audiences with a single chord, and then, at the very peak of his fame, faded into silence.
