A NASA astronaut captures a unique image of the Milky Way.
Finally, NASA flight engineer Donald Pettit published a uniquely clear image of the Milky Way, taken using a specially designed mechanical tracker.
Conventional long-exposure photographs turn stars into blurry streaks due to the movement of the ISS. Therefore, an analog spring mount was specially designed for the astronaut. The device rotates the camera at a rate of one rotation every 90 minutes, completely compensating for the shift of the International Space Station relative to the starry sky and allowing for the capture of sharp, fixed points.
