Wildberries is building warehouses the size of 36 football fields in Kazakhstan amid attacks in Russia.
Wildberries has begun construction on a large logistics complex in Kazakhstan, covering approximately 260 square meters. The marketplace is seeking to secure its infrastructure amid ongoing Ukrainian drone attacks on warehouses in Russian regions.
Construction and leasing of new premises in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's Minister of Trade, Arman Shakkaliyev, officially announced the construction of approximately 260 square meters of warehouse space by the marketplace. Specifically, the new facilities are scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027.
In addition, the company already leases 46 square meters of warehouse space in Kazakhstan. However, Shakkaliyev assures that the republic has not yet received any requests for additional space.
Reasons for infrastructure relocation and space shortage
Kommersant's sources previously reported that Wildberries management had begun actively searching for premises in Kazakhstan specifically to secure its warehouses from ongoing attacks. Meanwhile, in Russia, owners of large logistics complexes are refusing to lease warehouses to the marketplace en masse due to the risk of turning them into potential drone targets.
Experts noted that finding the necessary volumes in Kazakhstan would be extremely difficult. There is simply no single large block in the country, and all 130 square meters of available space are scattered across various cities.
The scale of attacks on Russian Wildberries warehouses
Therefore, the retailer's concerns are well-founded: since mid-July alone, Ukraine has attacked several dozen major Wildberries warehouses across Russia. Moreover, these attacks are ongoing—for example, just last night, warehouses in two towns caught fire.
As of mid-2026, Wildberries' logistics infrastructure included more than 200 warehouse complexes with a total area of over 5,2 million square meters, equivalent to approximately 728 football fields.
