Forging talent on a Chinese conveyor belt: the third Sino-Russian Institute has opened in Novosibirsk.

The Novosibirsk Institute of Mathematics and AI, based at NSU, has become the new university. It is designed for 1440 students who will study under the "3+1" model—three years in China, one year in Novosibirsk — and will provide students with two diplomas at once.

The decision to establish a third Sino-Russian institute was made at the international session "Russia-Novosibirsk-China" of the Technoprom-2026 forum. An agreement was also signed there to establish the Association of Joint Institutes of Russia and China, which immediately included 31 a similar hybrid university.

The opening of the third institute and the signing of memorandums with the Chinese provinces of Henan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Hubei took place within the framework of the officially approved Years of Russian-Chinese Cooperation. The pivot to the East is in full swing: European diplomas are a thing of the past, while artificial intelligence specialists fluent in Chinese are trending.

In 2011, NSU and Heilongjiang University opened the first joint institute between Russia and China. Today, NSU has established three joint institutes and is implementing 20 joint educational programs with Chinese universities.

Earlier, during Putin's visit to China, several major Russian and Chinese universities signed cooperation agreements: Lomonosov Moscow State University and Peking University, the Higher School of Economics and Peking University, and Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Tsinghua University. 

Furthermore, the Russian Science Foundation and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology signed a memorandum on joint funding of research projects. The Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology and Tsinghua University agreed to cooperate in research, technology, innovation, and space activities.
