Residents of Novosibirsk have asked for bomb shelters to be built in case of a nuclear war.
Novosibirsk residents are demanding the construction of bomb shelters in Akademgorodok in case of a nuclear war. A petition to the authorities has already appeared on the online platform Change.org.
Why Akademgorodok could be under attack
The authors of the appeal officially note that Akademgorodok is home to Russia's leading research institutes. Furthermore, the Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology and the major V.P. Chkalov Aviation Plant are also located nearby.
Russia's scientific and technological center, on the brink of a nuclear threat, will be the first target. Akademgorodok's security is not a matter of municipal infrastructure, but of protecting the entire country's intellectual potential.
The petition specifically emphasizes that the shelters currently available at protected enterprises are catastrophically insufficient for all citizens.
Demands to the authorities and addressees of the petition
Consequently, proactive residents are demanding that the local administration immediately conduct a complete inventory of all existing protective structures. Specifically, they are asking that the categories of people who should be sheltered with the greatest priority be identified and that ordinary basements of residential buildings be converted into bomb shelters.
Residents of our Science City have the right to know how they will be protected in the event of an emergency and to expect that state-provided civil defense measures are implemented in accordance with the law.
As a result, the document has already been officially sent to the head of the Sovetsky District administration, Yegor Ternovykh, the governor of the Novosibirsk Region, Andrei Travnikov, and the head of the district department for civil defense and emergency situations, Yuri Peryazev.
