The director of a management company is being sued over a collapsed building. Its major renovations were delayed for 10 years.

The three-story house, built in 1954, first cracked and then began to settle. in Balakhna In April of this year, the building wasn't in disrepair, but it needed major repairs. The trial of the director of the building management company (DUK) recently began. Ivan Chernikov, which had nothing to do with the major repairs.

The building's basement was flooded, and draining it was impossible. Major repairs were initially scheduled for 2017, then 2025, and then the mid-2030s. According to Chernikov, dozens of nearby buildings have flooded basements because the "drainage system is broken," and other buildings could collapse one after another.

"They've found someone to blame. Who else can be held responsible? I have responses from the administration that the drainage system isn't working. The building's collapse was the result of ten years of groundwater flooding."- He explained Chernikov.

He claims that houses of this type and age should be renovated every 25 years, but his has never been renovated. Water was pumped out of the basement, but it kept coming back.

About 729 thousand houses in Russia needs in major repairs, the deadlines are constantly being pushed back. For example, the major repairs of one crumbling building in Voronezh were postponed for more than 20 years, the other for 2052. And in the summer, residents of Samara watched as crumbling an apartment building that should have been vacated five years ago.
