A leak of approximately 200 tons of diesel fuel occurred in Taimyr, and local authorities declared a state of emergency.

Fuel tank in the village Syndassko was damaged by the storm. As the head of Taimyr Okrug Alexey Chlenov, the situation is under control, there is no threat to the population, and no obvious signs of damage to the environment have allegedly been detected.

The day before in the north Krasnoyarsk Territory Winds gusted to 27 m/s, causing the water level in Khatanga Bay to rise, flooding and damaging a reservoir located on the shore.

Syndassko is one of the northernmost settlements in Russia. It has a population of approximately 500. The spilled fuel was intended for the local power plant.

"The village has a 10-day fuel supply. The full amount will be delivered from Khatanga soon," stated Chlenov.

Information on the extent of the contamination has not yet been released. Investigators have already opened a criminal case for violating environmental regulations.
