A thousand MACs: Extremely high levels of heavy metal pollution in river water discovered in Norilsk
According to the results of a study of the water in the Shchuchya River in Norilsk, 30 meters below the Stroybytservis LLC landfill, extremely high contamination with copper (1000 maximum permissible concentrations), nickel (300 MAC), manganese (59 MAC), cadmium (13,8 MAC) and high contamination with zinc (24 MAC) were found.
Test results опубликовал Chairman of the Norilsk public organization "My Home" Ruslan Abdullaev.
Test results and violations of the Water Code
Water tests conducted 360 meters above the landfill also show levels exceeding the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) multiple times, but significantly less.
The city's waste landfill is located in the water protection zone of the Shchuchya and Novaya Nalednaya rivers, which is expressly prohibited by Article 65 of the Water Code of the Russian Federation.
Reaction of public activists
Abdullaev has already contacted the local Ministry of Ecology for clarification.
Formerly the organization "My Home" applied to the Arbitration Court with claims for compensation for damage caused to soils by the activities of the Stroybytservis LLC landfill.
