Photo of the day. Residents of Nizhny Novgorod's Bor captured the glow of the "Eye of Sauron"—a greenhouse complex that glows, smells foul, makes noise, and vibrates.

A glow similar to the northern lights, but of a poisonous yellow color, took off Nizhny Novgorod residents recently. A blinding light can be seen tens of kilometers from Bor, in Nizhny Novgorod.

A giant greenhouse for growing cucumbers and other vegetables was launched in 2021 literally at 50 meters from houses village of IvonkinoResidents immediately began complaining to all authorities about the noise and vibration from the fans, the unpleasant odor, and the lighting, which made it impossible to sleep.

Regulatory authorities failed to notice the violations for a long time. According to locals, 20 minutes before the Rospotrebnadzor commission arrived, the lights would go out, the hum would subside, and the inspections revealed nothing. Residents commissioned a series of independent inspections, after which Rospotrebnadzor discovered the violations and, together with the residents, filed a lawsuit. In 2022, residents won a small victory - the plant's operations were suspended for 45 days.

After repeated claims The company took some measures to reduce noise and light, but they were only partially successful. Due to local protests and media coverage, construction of a second greenhouse was abandoned (most likely temporarily).

Recently, residents of Nizhny Novgorod were once again able to see the glow of the "Eye of Sauron," as they nicknamed the greenhouse glow. Journalists called the phenomenon "terribly beautiful."
