Krasnoyarsk deputy Elena Penzina has once again called for the revival of SMERSH, this time in response to drone attacks in the Irkutsk region.
Legislative Assembly Deputy Krasnoyarsk Territory again proposed to revive SMERSH (Death to Spies), the counterintelligence organization in the USSR that operated during the Great Patriotic War. The reason for such a statement, which turned The local publication Prospekt Mira has drawn attention to the recent drone attack on Irkutsk region.
Penzina believes that "Terrorists will act more and more brazenly each time and affect those areas of the country that were previously considered calm." She also noted that among them there may also be Ukrainians, who began coming to Russia in 2014.
"It would be appropriate to organize SMERSH or volunteer self-defense units within law enforcement agencies. Many, if not all, former law enforcement officials are discussing this topic among themselves today. <…> I don't think there's any need to exaggerate, but starting around 2014, Ukrainian citizens began actively migrating to Russia. Many have successfully integrated into our society, but such processes, in my opinion, have other consequences. A certain number of so-called 'sleepers' have also arrived in the country. Where do these people live, and what do they do?" wrote Penzina.
Elena Penzina last year already took the initiative revival of SMERSH, stating that there are “about 30% traitors” in the country.
